“Stress Fractures:  How to Keep the Mind and Body Intact While Practicing Law”

Brief Description:

Practicing law is stressful.  There is a growing body of research linking workplace stress to mental and physical disease and a shorter life-span.  The goal of this seminar is to examine the aspects of the profession that create and exacerbate stress, to suggest ways in which we can work together to improve the profession by limiting unreasonable and unnecessary stress, and to provide practical solutions for lawyers in stressful work environments. 

Agenda

8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.:    Registration

9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.:    The Stress of Litigation.  Bruce Hearey, a partner at Ogletree Deakins, will discuss the causes of stress in litigation and propose practical ways that we can work together to improve the profession for the good of all.

9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.:   A Personal Perspective.  Mark Bennett, an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, will share his personal story regarding the relationship between stress and mental and physical health. 

10:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.:  Break

10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.: A Medical Perspective.  Dr. Richard Josephson, Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and Director of Cardiac Intensive Care and Director of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation of University Hospitals Health System will provide a medical perspective focusing on prevention of disease. 

11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.:  A Wellness Perspective.  Carol Kwait, Director of Program Services at Partners to Empowerment Wellness Center will provide an interactive session aimed at giving participants real tools for managing stress and improving overall mental health and well-being. 

This seminar is FREE for members, but you MUST pre-register by December 12, 2016.
